Yate edged out by Tiverton
Tiverton Tn 3 Yate Tn 2: Tiverton struck late on to snatch their first home win of the season and deny battling Yate a point in this Southern League Premier Division game.
Yate manager Richard Thompson said: "We played well and twice took the lead, but their penalty which made the scoreline 2-2 was given despite no appeal."
The visitors took a 19th-minute lead through Craig Davidge after good work by Darren Hawkins.
Bobby Hopkinson and James Fraser went close for Tiverton. Then Phil Walsh saw his header hit the upright and, as half-time approached, Hopkinson saw his shot clip the crossbar.
The home side got back on level terms in the 56th minute through Bristol-based Tom Knighton, who netted with an overhead shot which gave goalkeeper Matthews no chance.
But Yate hit back to regain the lead within a minute. Substitute Dean Griffiths – who had replaced the injured Aaron Blakemore – ran on to a through ball from Paul Chenoweth and beat goalkeeper Steve Book with his shot.
Then came the disputed penalty award, which gave James Fraser the chance to score from the spot to make it 2-2. In the final minute, Fraser created an opening for Paul Jarvis and he beat Matthews with a well-struck half-volley.
