Yate Town remain at the bottom after Hitchin's late blitz
Hitchin Town 3 Yate Town 1: Yate held the lead for much of the game but then conceded three goals in the last 18 minutes to end up pointless.
They remain firmly fixed at the foot of the table as the games begin to run out, while fellow strugglers Hitchin moved further away from the bottom four places.
Yate edged in front early in the first half when Sam Duggan made good progress up the right before crossing for Jake Reid to finish well on the near post.
Hitchin hit back strongly and came close to drawing level on 40 minutes when a long range effort from Kieron St. Aimie came back off the woodwork and bounced clear.
The turning point came midway through the second half, when Yate missed two presentable chances to increase their lead. First, a volley from Dean Griffiths hit a post and came back out and then an effort from Reid went just over the crossbar.
Immediately afterwards, in the 72nd minute, the home side equalised, defender Aron Robbins turning the ball into his own goal as Hitchin attacked in numbers.
Yate were then sunk as Hitchin netted two more goals in the final two minutes of the game.
Mark Barnes turned well before slotting the ball home on 89 minutes and a minute later substitute James Edgley smashed in a free-kick after Robbins had brought down Ollie Thorne just outside the box.
