Stourbridge 8 Yate Town 4: Yate Town crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season, with a performance that manager Richard Thompson later said "embarrassed me and themselves".

Yate took the lead in the 14th minute, when striker Jake Reid capitalised on a mix-up between Stourbridge goalkeeper Lewis Solly and defender Nathan Bennett.

They added a second six minutes later when they were awarded a free-kick 25 yards out and striker Aaron Blakemore crashed a shot around the five-man defensive wall to beat Solly.

Stourbridge hit back after 27 minutes, when the Yate defence failed to deal with a free-kick into the goalmouth and Ross Collins scrambled the ball home.

A minute later the hosts were level thanks to a fine individual goal from Callum Martin.

Five minutes into the second half Stourbridge took the lead, as Bennett beat goalkeeper Danny Woodall from a narrow angle, and they quickly added further goals through Sam Rock and Leon Broadhurst to make the score 5-2 after 70 minutes.

Blakemore then scored a third for Yate with another well-struck free-kick before Rock struck twice more to complete his hat-trick and Les Hines wrapped up the home side's scoring.

There was still enough time for Blakemore to complete his hat-trick with a last-minute penalty, but Thompson was left furious at the finale.

"Things started off well and we took a 2-0 lead but after this things the performance was an absolute disgrace with too many players having an off-day, particularly in defence while our midfield was non-existent," he said.

"We were missing Paul Chenoweth and Paul Metheringham in midfield and leading scorer Dean Griffiths up front, all through suspension, and this obviously affected our performance."
