Former Yate Town manager Richard Thompson has issued a plea to West Country football chairmen: "I'm available for hire."

Sacked by Yate early in the new year, Thompson was forced to watch the closing stages of last season from the sidelines, an experience he admitted that was immensely frustrating.

"I believe my CV is as good as anyone's in the Southern League and I feel I have a lot to offer. I want to get back into the game and the sooner the better," said Thompson

Yate's decision to dispense with Thompson's services failed to save them from relegation and was questioned by many.

In his eight seasons at Lodge Road, Thompson guided Yate to two promotions, two GFA Cups and a League Cup.

"I have been watching games and had a few invites to take training, but I really miss that time on match days between 12-3pm and the build-up to a game, and then the period afterwards," added Thompson.

"I am really keen to get involved again, but at the moment there doesn't seem to be too many opportunities.

"I am willing to listen to any offer but if I have to wait another six months then so be it."

Paulton Rovers manager Andrew Jones has confirmed that former Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle defender Jon Beswetherick has been released.

"The decision is just down to Jon's job as a policeman and being unable to commit himself for every game," said Jones.

"It has nothing to do with his ability, as he is a quality player and did well for us."

Jason Hughes has also been told he can look for another club, although Jones stressed he could attend pre-season training and show that he still has a role to play.

Jones also confirmed that his playing budget has been cut from last season, a move that meant he was unable to compete with Mangotsfield United for the signing of Tiverton Town striker Tom Knighton.

"We have had a small budget cut but no more than I or the players anticipated," added Jones. "We have to be realistic in the current climate."

Clevedon Town manager Nick Tucker has secured the signing of Ben Evans, who joined the club on loan from Newport County in February.

"Ben did well for us and I'm glad to have him on board," said Tucker.

He also confirmed Jenny Powell has replaced Sylvia Durham as physio.
