A couple had to be rescued from their car after it was submerged in water.

Yanley Lane had been closed after the nearby river burst its banks, but the man and woman in their 60s had been at a friend's house in the road and were not aware of the closure until they became trapped in water four feet deep. Two fire engines and a boat from Bedminster, along with engines from Temple Back and Brislington, attended the incident just after 1.45am yesterday.
