Bristol teenager George Shelley has soared to stardom after becoming a member of X Factor boy band Union J.

The 19-year-old, who left the competition at boot camp, was brought back to join Jamie Hamblett, Josh Cuthbert and Jaymi Hensley, who were originally in a band named Triple J. The trio also left the competition at boot camp.

“The group then came up with a new name and they are now called Union J.”

The band went on to perform to Walsh in Las Vegas, during the Judges’ Houses round of the contest. After a tense wait the foursome were told they were being taken through to Live Shows, the next stage of the competition in which they have to perform in front of a live audience.

Union J member Jamie Hamblett, of Newmarket, told Cambridge News: “It has just been an amazing experience. It’s just a bit surreal. I keep pinching myself.”

And being a foursome feels “right”, the band have said. “We couldn’t believe it when we got the call about going to Judges Houses and of course we jumped at the chance,” they said.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. We’re so happy to be a four piece too. The group feels so right together, it feels like we’ve been together for years!”

Meanwhile Jaymi Hensley said of Bristol teenager George: “We already feel like brothers, he is like the missing puzzle piece and we just feel he has made us ten times stronger than we ever were or ever could have been as a three.”

The band have been a huge hit with the public – they have 143,756 Twitter followers and their Facebook page has 2,446 ‘likes’, with their wall covered in messages of adoration.

The boys have also won the support of previous X Factor stars One Direction. When Louis Walsh told the boys they were in his final three, Band member Louis Tomlinson wrote on Twitter: “Yeyyyyy I really like Union J !!”

Meanwhile celebrity magazines have been fighting to interview the foursome – Union J appeared in today’s Now magazine.

But it remains to be seen whether Union J will make it all the way in the competition.

Check out their performance on Saturday October 6 when the first live shows take place from 8pm to 10.20pm on ITV1. The first results show takes place the following day.
