The first four albums of West Country band The Wurzels are to be released on CD today for the first time.

For almost four decades, the band has entertained with their rural-inspired ditties – from Combine Harvester to Drink Up Thy Cider.

The albums, previously only available on vinyl, feature vocals from the much-loved singer Adge Cutler, who was killed in a car crash.

The group will mark the long-awaited release of the albums – Carry on Cutler, The Adge Cutler's Family Album, Don't Tell I Tell Ee and Live at the Royal Oak – with a new tribute single Ode to Adge.

Alan John Cutler started his music career as road manager for Acker Bilk. However, making music was in his blood and with several self-penned songs his reputation grew across the West country.

A spokesman for The Wurzels said: "Adge Cutler was a true Somerset legend who loved his homeland, its characters and their foibles. The wit of his lyrics encouraged Somerset folk to laugh at themselves. He was that rare bird – a born entertainer – and his songs had brought so much pleasure to so many people."
