Wring strikes to lift Clevedon out of relegation zone
Clevedon Town 1 Hemel Hempstead Town 0: A second-half goal from skipper Danny Wring was enough to lift Clevedon out of the relegation zone.
Although this was the visitors' seventh consecutive away Southern League Premier Division defeat, they had enough chances to take something from the game.
The home side went close to taking a 14th minute lead when a free-kick from Matt Walsh came back off a post.
At the other end, in the 28th minute, home goalkeeper Danny Greaves did well to keep out a shot from Leon Solomon.
A minute later, the visitors were denied by the woodwork when a shot from Jake Gilbert struck a post, and further chances went begging with Charlie Taylor and Ryan Blake both sending shots just wide of the Clevedon goal.
Early in the second period, Greaves kept out a shot from Danny Granville and, in the 64th minute, Jamie Eames had his effort cleared off the line by a Clevedon defender.
However, the home side went ahead three minutes later – Jamal Easter making a good run through the Hemel defence to set up Wring, whose low shot beat keeper Mike McEntegart.
Taylor should have levelled the scores five minutes later and Greaves made another good save in stoppage-time to keep out a shot from substitute Adam Bernard.
