Cheltenham Town skipper Alan Wright believes his side are ready to hand out a 'right hiding' if sporadic periods of impressive play can be maintained for a full 90 minutes.

The Robins brought a four-game losing streak to an end last weekend after drawing with Oldham Athletic to live to fight another day in the FA Cup.

And although they surrendered a two-goal half-time lead to book a trip to Boundary Park for a replay next Tuesday night, Wright insists that aspects of the performance gave cause for optimism.

Martin Allen's side have also played well intermittently in defeats against title-chasing pace setters Scunthorpe and Leeds United, and Wright believes it is only a matter of time before his side hand out the sort of battering that recent performances may have warranted.

He said: "We played really well for the first half-an-hour against Oldham and created a lot of chances of which we managed to convert a couple.

"We just need to be able to maintain the standard we showed in the first-half on Saturday for a whole game. If we can do that, I think someone is in for a real hiding.

"We are pleased to still be in the draw but bitterly disappointed not to have won that game. We knew the next goal after we went two up was going to be crucial and the fact that they got it just after half-time was a real blow.

"It gave them a lift and they gained the momentum. It has been a little bit frustrating, but, apart from the MK Dons defeat, the performances have been quite good.

"Once we get the first win we will kick on and go on a bit of a run that the performances suggest we are capable of."

The Robins travel to Edgar Street this afternoon to face Hereford United in the West derby clash looking for their first win in five attempts.

"It's a huge game for us because we need to get some results after not winning in the last few matches," Wright added.

"All derby games are a bit special and it is a nice one for the supporters. We are both in the bottom four but this game is definitely as big as any other."

Graham Turner's side prop up the rest of League One after a difficult start to the campaign. Cheltenham remain only two points and two places above their West rivals and Wright continued: "We want to win every game but more so the teams around us in the league.

"If we can take three points it stretches the gap between us and them and gives us a bit of momentum to build on."
