Worthington could stay at Yeovil for another month
While Yeovil Town's League One prospects are looking brighter after three successive wins, midfielder Jon Worthington admits his future is far from certain.
The Huddersfield Town club captain says he would consider an extension to his initial month on loan at Huish Park.
And he admits his long-term outlook is not clear either as his Terriers' contract runs out in June.
Having played just one game and experienced only one training session with the Glovers, it is a little early to think about next season.
But Worthington said: "My options are open so I would consider another month.
"I have come down here to play games and if things go well for both parties there is the option to extend it.
"I am out of contract in the summer but I am keeping options open and concentrating on each game."
Worthington is Dewsbury-born and Bradford-bred so a move four hours south is a big step for the 25-year-old.
"I have been at Huddersfield Town since I was 10 and I have always been a regular and it has been unfortunate to find myself out of favour," he said.
"I don't think I have got anything to prove as a player but I take everything as a challenge and coming down here gives me the opportunity to perform and that is what I am going to do."
Worthington admits his Yeovil debut in last Saturday's 1-0 win at Leyton Orient was tough on his body as it was his first competitive 90 minutes since early December.
"I was very stiff afterwards," he said. "It was a good seven or eight weeks since my last start and it was a tough game.
"But I have been training hard and had a few games in the reserves for Huddersfield so fitness-wise I felt better than I thought I would."
Russell Slade's side were due to host Northampton Town this afternoon.
But the game was called off yesterday lunchtime – more than 24 hours before kick-off – because areas outside the ground and within the stadium were deemed unsafe.
No new date has yet been set for the game but Tuesday, March 17 looks the early favourite. Yeovil would have been looking for only a fourth home victory of the season.
But assistant boss Steve Thompson is refusing to pin the whole of the blame for the Glovers' home form on the problematic Huish Park pitch.
Thompson insists they can make the top half of the League One table if they collect more points at their Somerset base.
"We have picked up 18 of our 33 points away from home this season," said Thompson.
"We are a footballing team and like to play on a good surface. You don't want to be making excuses but we don't have a massive, physical team.
"We have to keep the ball on the ground and you want as good as surface as possible."
"We have been on a good run and we would like to carry it on to two consecutive home wins which we haven't done all season.
"About 10 days ago Northampton were about nine points above us but we have done well and now we are in touch with several other teams and can look to go past them.
"But it is one thing saying that of course and another thing doing it."
Aidan Downes, Terrell Forbes and Danny Schofield are all due to serve a suspension which will carry over to next Saturday's trip to Peterborough United.
