This is Bristol

The Bristol African Musical Festival takes place tomorrow at St George's.

There will be 10 hours of live music from 10 different bands between 1pm and 11pm, in what has been billed as "the most explosive local world music, a mesmerising tapestry, an extraordinary event of gloriously uplifting world music from some of the great names of the Bristol African scene".

Featured musicians include Senegalese kora master Moussa Kouyate and British slide-guitarist maestro Kevin Brown; Fidelis Mherembi's traditional mbira; cosmopolitan Afro-Caribbean groove combo Mankala; and British Ghanaian singer-songwriter Lorraine Ayensu.

Itsus is an unlikely collaboration by drivers with the St Paul's-based Dads Cabs taxi firm, while Senegalese singer-guitarist Biram Seck will showcase his music in collaboration with a band drawn from the ranks of Cazimi, Sheelanagig, Beth Rowley Band and Roni Size Reprazent.

An all day ticket costs £4.99. Tickets can be purchased on the door or via the box office on 08454 024001.
