Bristol Academy made sure they achieved the target of a top-eight finish set them by coach Gary Green as they rounded off their season with a 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Mangotsfield United's Cossham Street ground.

Gwen Harries put them ahead after 16 minutes and Connie Short, making her first-team debut up front, nodded home the second from Corinne Yorston's cross just before the hour.

Kerry Bartlett added the home side's third goal eight minutes from time before Lynda Shepherd headed a consolation for Blackburn deep into stoppage time.

"We played well and scored when we were on top, which makes a difference," said Green, who will now start planning for the next campaign in the FA Premier League National Division.

"Hopefully we will keep the players we have got and add a few more for next season."

Injuries have wrecked Keynsham Town's run-in to the end of their Southern Division campaign and they conceded five goals for the third game in a row as they went down 5-0 against champions Millwall, who will be playing in the top flight next term.

Keynsham held out until just before the interval, then Laura Jeffrey and Ann-Marie Heatherson struck for the Lionesses.

Charlotte Gurr and Leah Jones added further goals after the break and Tanja Andjelkovic put through her own goal late on.

Keynsham's Development side also conceded five in their defeat by Oldland Abbotonians in Division One (North) of the SW Women's League.

Gemma Summers bagged a hat-trick to take her goals tally for the season to 31, with Jess Cole netting twice as all of the goals came after the break.

Oldland, who have finished as runners-up, are looking to recruit new players for next season and those interested can contact assistant boss Steve Lavis on 07717 694799.
