Women of Bristol Join Our Chorus!
A ladies acappella chorus in Bristol is looking for new members. Avon Harmony is actively recruiting women over 18 who enjoy singing, and would like to be part of this enjoyable group. We sing four-part unaccompanied harmony, and enjoy entertaining locally, and competing nationally. Even if your only singing experience is from schooldays, or to the radio, if you would like learn a new style of singing, to sing for enjoyment and health, this may well be for you. You don't need to be able to read music, as we learn all our songs by ear. We rehearse at Fairfield High School in Horfield every Thursday evening at 7.30pm, and visitors are always welcome. See our website for more information; www.avonharmony.co.uk or email us at enquiries@avonharmony.co.uk

“It was meant as a little tease Shellbones only tongue in cheek, no offence intended, such is the boredom of the office place :)
Naturally the two sexes need to be kept seperated in phyisal sport (particularly rugby) as us males are physically more superior and there would be injuries galore in that scrum!”

“* that's supposed to be "Just like some women can get the bottom notes of a male bass line, but again not many". Obviously.”

“Only Men Aloud? It would kind of go against their ethos if they started letting women in.
The majority of my boy-friends that play football/rugby/tennis/baseball/judo play and compete in single gender teams, in single gender leagues. The majority of sports shown on TV are single gender. There are Chorus' out there for mixed voice, for male only and for female only. Your gripe appears that this one is female only. I hope you treat all single gender activities in the same way.
The fact is, women and men sing in different ranges. Yes, some men can get top notes in a women's tenor line, but not many and it doesn't sound nice. Just like some women can get the bottom notes of a male tenor line, but again not many. This chorus has chosen to be women only. There are mixed chorus' and male only chorus' available in Bristol too therefore men are not being excluded from the activity of acapella singing; they are being excluded from this particular group. I think most men would understand this and wouldn't get a superiority complex about. It's got nothing to do with equality. It's about choosing whom you would like to sing with. These women want to sing with women and so have chosen this chorus. If women want to sing with men, then I would guess this chorus isn't for them and they should try Keepers of the Fire or Cabot choir.”

“@ourbads
How many women can sing tenor though?
Plenty of men can reach the high notes particularly if squeezed in a certain region!”

."Yes I suppose it is. But no more sexist than football, rugby, or any other group that only allows one gender..."
Do you live on planet Mars, or in the middle of a field with no connection to the real world?!!!
Womens football and rugby has exploded into life in recent years and rightly so too, with an abundance of leagues, and guess what its also gone professional as now well!
Please give an example of a men only event in todays society that has no logical reason for it not to be a mixed sex event?”

“Yet another example to add to the many of women only events, it's incredibly tiring and not sure it's what Germaine Greer et al set out to achieve when she rightly pointed out EQUALITY.”
