A woman from Backwell is preparing to walk up Ireland's highest mountain this weekend to raise money for a charity which supports bereaved children.

Tina Wilson, 49, will climb the 3,411ft Carrantoohill in the Killarney National Park with friends today to raise cash for Winston's Wish.

She said: "I'm walking with friends, many of whom walked the Three Peaks last year and enjoyed the challenge

"I'm celebrating my 50th birthday next February and by taking on this challenge, it shows life does really begin at 50.

"It is never too late to make changes."

Tina, who is married to rugby coach Mark, added: "I was inspired to support Winston's Wish after seeing their work on a recent TV programme.

"I also attended a charity ball where a guest speaker spoke very movingly about the work that the organisation did.

"I, as many others, have lost family, friends, and neighbours whom I loved, and appreciate how difficult these times are for family and friends.

"Winston's Wish helps young people readjust to life after the death of a parent or sibling by providing professional assistance and support during and after bereavement."
