Withywood pupil Kerry hasn't missed a day of class in 5 years

A PUPIL has been recognised for failing to miss a single day of school in five years.

Kerry Mauro, a Year 6 pupil at Fair Furlong Primary School in Withywood, has been ever-present in the classroom for half a decade.

As a result of her achievement, school governors have introduced a new award on which the names of 100 per cent attendees will be engraved each year.

The school's head teacher Emma Drew said attendance at the school had improved, with more than 20 pupils notching up 100 per cent attendance this year.

She said: "Kerry joined us mid way through Year 1 and has had 100 per cent attendance from Year 2 through to Year 6 – this shows a really outstanding consistent achievement throughout her time with us.

"We have been working incredibly hard to improve the attendance throughout our school over a number of years. Although we have been pleased with our results in recent years we are thrilled this year to have achieved 95.5 per cent, which is a 1.3 per cent improvement on our previous year's result."
