Withywood family wins Christmas with Broadmead
Christmas is all wrapped up for one lucky family in Withywood thanks to the Bristol Evening Post and Broadmead.
Housewife Sue Darwall, 34, is the winner of the Win Christmas with Broadmead competition – bagging everything from a Christmas tree and decorations to mince pies.
The prize value is more than £1,500, and could not have come at a better time for Sue and husband Andrew, 41 – who have their children 10-month-old Evie and six-year-old Matthew to care for at Christmas, as well as Andrew's sons Jordan, 16, and Daniel, 15.
Sue and Andrew, who works for Morrisons, could not believe their luck.
"Things like this just don't happen to me. You just can't begin to understand what this means and what a difference it will make to our Christmas this year," said Sue.
"Things have been difficult recently and although they are starting to ease up this will make an immense difference.
"I had a spare half an hour, which doesn't happen often with Evie, and I was catching up with the last couple of days' papers when I spotted the competition.
"I said to mum as I was filling it out, "I could do with winning some Christmas crackers because the ones I've got are really naff"."
"I thought it was the chance to win one of the many prizes, not all of them – it took a few conversations with the people at the Post when they told me I had won to realise it is all for us."
There were more than 830 entries to the competition, in which readers had to collect tokens and answer a Christmas question.
The winning package includes £200 worth of Marks and Spencer Christmas food – including a turkey – table settings worth £200, and decorations worth £200, including a tree from Debenhams.
For dad there is £200 worth of vouchers for electrical retailers Currys Digital and for mum a diamond and gold necklace from Parson's Jewellers – and to top it off there is £200 in vouchers to spend at The Mall.
Sue's mum, Di Anderson, 64, from Whitchurch, said: "I couldn't think of anybody more deserving.
"She's so generous but doesn't have much and this Christmas they are really in need.
John Hirst, manager of Broadmead, said: "Working with the Bristol Evening Post has been fun and it's great to give away a complete Christmas to Sue who is absolutely thrilled with it."
