Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Verdicchio Classico dei Castelli di Jesi 2011 is currently reduced from £7.49 to £4.99.
From the Marches region of Italy's Adriatic centre, this is one of the country's iconic dry whites, made from Verdicchio grapes cultivated around the historic hill town of Jesi.
In its traditional amphora-shaped bottle (a local tradition dating all the way back to the 1950s), it's a distinctively crisp and brisk style of wine, a lively match for creamy pasta dishes, and in this case, remarkably delicious.
Hold the wine up to the light, and you might detect a glint of green in the colour. The story goes that the Verdicchio grape is so-called thanks to the "verde" – green – hue it imparts to the wine it makes.
