Chevalier du Tour St Emilion 2011, currently reduced from £12.99 to £7 at Tesco, is a thoroughly modern claret.
It comes in a screw- topped bottle and it's ready for drinking now, a little stalky on first taste but rapidly evening out in the glass into a full, firm blackberry/cherry Bordeaux of defined character.
Merlot accounts for most of the blend. Decanting will help this wine to bloom. It's not a £12.99 wine, but at £7 it's comfortably good value.
