Wine of the week Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc
Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc 2011 is the kind of New Zealand wine I get excited about. It's from a prime vineyard zone, Martinborough, at the foot of North Island, where the gravelly soils by the Huangarua River are credited with near-mystical powers of imparting mineral character into the juice of the grapes. Try this and you'll get the drift.
There is a twang of lime and a kiss of nectarine in the nettly aroma, and matching citrus and minerality in the luscious, grassy fruit. The price is a justifiable £13.74 at Majestic, and if you buy any two New Zealand wines among the minimum six-bottle purchase, you get 20 per cent off. At £10.99 a bottle, it's an exciting bargain.
