Wildlife lovers wing their way to garden centre to meet birds of prey
Wildlife lovers are being invited to a Somerset garden centre to meet a collection of birds of prey.
Representatives from Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre in East Huntspill will be visiting Sanders GardenWorld in Brent Knoll on October 25 as part of its Wild Bird Care Week, which runs from October 19-25.
Garden centre general manager, Peter Burks said: "We are hosting our Wild Bird Care Week to help raise awareness of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds' (RSPB's) 'Feed the Birds Day', on October 24 and 25.
"We are delighted that representatives from Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre will be joining us at the garden centre.
"Visitors will be given the opportunity to get up close to birds of prey including a kestrel and different breeds of owl and learn about their habitat and why they were rescued by the centre."
Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre, which specialises in the rescue, rehabilitation and eventual release of orphaned and injured wild creatures, is run entirely on donations and runs the only 24-hour wildlife rescue service in South West England and is one of Sanders GardenWorld's charities of the year' for 2009.
During the garden centre's Wild Bird Care Week, there will be free fun activities for children.
Free information leaflets will be available while stocks last, giving advice about feeding birds in the garden and providing shelter for them, using nest boxes.
There will also be an opportunity for visitors to find out how to make their gardens into a haven for wild birds.
