Whitehall fight back to end Cirencester run and go second
WHITEHALL climbed to second and brought Cirencester's unbeaten start to the season to an end with a 29-18 victory in Gloucester Premier.
Cirencester were 8-3 ahead, Chris Channon scoring a penalty for Whitehall, before the hosts came to life.
Tries from Andy Watts, Simon Bishop, and Mike Ficuciello, with Channon converting two, put the home side 22-8 up.
But with 15 minutes to go Whitehall didn't kill the game off and allowed the visitors to score two tries and reduce the deficit to four points.
However, Luke Colton touched down, Channon adding the extras, to secure the victory.
David Wright crossed for a brace of tries in Bristol Saracens' 36-3 win at Hucclecote. Ross Bergen, Lewis Harper, Karl Venn and Connor McCave also touched down. Ian Werritt kicked three conversions.
Southmead came from behind to win 17-7 in their first match at Matson.
They also shrugged off the sin-binning of Gary Sposito. Greg Welling crossed, with Danny Cotterell scoring a try, two conversions and a penalty.
Frampton Cotterell remain bottom after losing 35-7 at Old Colstonians, Robbie Wotherspoon scoring a consolation try. Mike Ashwin converted.
Colstonians' tries came from Harry Burrows, Dave Moss, Archie Watts-Farmer, Simon Burton and Grant Williams. George Burrows slotted two penalties and two conversions.
Chipping Sodbury are up to seventh in Gloucester One after winning 21-0 against bottom club Painswick. Alan Keeping, Neil Gapper and Dan Rugg touched down, with Steve Romanowski adding the extras.
Old Bristolians won 35-14 against Dursley, with Gavin Hooper (2), Steve Forster (2) and Dan Evans crossing. Lyndon Davies kicked a penalty and two conversions, while Simon Hawkins added a penalty.
Bishopston lost 18-13 at Longlevens. Centre Rob Daniel touched down and Dave Priddy hit a conversion and two penalties.
In Gloucester Two, Kingswood climbed to second following their 24-12 victory at Old Elizabethans.
Tries from Mike Oakley and Adam Morris gave Kingswood a 12-0 half time lead. Captain Paul Allen and Ben Lambert added a touchdown each within six minutes of the break. Ian Kirley added two conversions.
Old Elizabethans replied through tries from Gareth Fuge and Dom Swann, who also landed a penalty.
St Brendan's maintained their 100 per cent start in Gloucester Three with a 39-3 win at Gloucester Civil Service.
Tries came from Ben Carter (2), James Honeyfield, James Fry, Luke Hartley, and debutant James Douglas. Ben Chilvers kicked four conversions.
Somerset Premier leaders Tor beat Bristol Harlequins 15-3, Quins' points coming from a Barry Stone penalty.
Chew Valley earned a 27-26 victory over Wells. Paul Todd kicked three penalties and skipper Darren Jefferies added two tries.
Somerset One leaders St Bernadette's won 16-15 against Combe Down.
