 WEYMOUTH   1    MANSFIELD TOWN  1

AT the end of another turbulent week at the Wessex Stadium, a lacklustre performance from the Terras allowed 10-man Mansfield off the hook.

With boss John Hollins still suspended, the Terras suffered another blow as acting-manager Alan Lewer fell sick.

So it was first-team coach and former Bristol Rovers midfielder Marcus Browning who was forced to take charge.

He said: “We were poor in the second half – we should be beating sides like Mansfield if we want to make the play-offs. We thought we just needed to turn up for the second half to win.”

The home side began well  and, midway through the first period, Chris McPhee bagged his seventh goal of the campaign as he reacted quickest to Alex Jeannin’s under-hit back pass and slid a shot home from 12 yards.

After that, full-back Kevin Sandwith struck two free-kicks just over and Ryan Williams carved out a decent chance for himself but pushed  his shot wide.

It looked likely the Terras would be made to pay for not adding a second and  danger man Emile Sinclair broke free of Adam Bygrave and slotted past Danny Knowles to make it 1-1.

The last action of the half saw Maxine Chanot dismissed after he appeared to  headbutt Bygrave but the Terras failed to take advantage of this act of stupidity in a poor second half showing.

Indeed, despite their handicap, it was Mansfield who looked the more likely winners and they nearly sealed the points when Jason Lee’s header flew inches wide, while sub Aaron O’Connor would have scored but for a last-ditch block from Scott Doe.

At the other end Weymouth failed to register a single shot on target over the second period and there was little to warm the fans on a bitterly cold afternoon.
