A shortlist of redevelopment plans for an historic pier were revealed today - just eight weeks after the seaside landmark was destroyed by fire.

Six architect firms have entered designs into a competition to win the contract to shape the future look of the Grand Pier, in Weston-super-Mare.

The 104-year-old pier took just 90 minutes to become a blackened shell when a blaze broke out in August.

“i do hope the Angus Meek design is chosen for our beloved pier. it is modern light and airy, but also is very much in keeping with a traditional pier. lets hope kerry and Michelle think the same way. the others are too futuristic looking and would spoil the look of our sea front.”

“Where is the Angus Meek picture? Your vote is'nt going to mean much if you don't have all the ideas! It might be really good. The others look a bit spacey apart from Ray Hole's which looks like a hovercraft!”
