Chelmsford City 4 Weston-super-Mare 1

Weston's injury woes continued into their last game of the season as they crashed to play-off certainties Chelmsford.

The already under-strength squad was further hit as Ashan Holgate and Marvin Brown were missing and leading scorer Marc McGregor limped off four minutes into the second half after picking up a knock.

The breakthrough came on 22 minutes when Spencer Knight headed in James Lawson's cross from the right.

A second came four minutes later when Dave Rainford beat Northmore from Knight's cross.

After McGregor departed, Weston brought on Matty Groves, but he failed to make a telling partnership with Partridge and the Weston attack faded.

However, the visitors pulled a goal back on 72 minutes when Darren Mullings beat Danny Gay with a shot on the turn despite the attentions of two defenders.

Any hopes Weston had of salvaging an unlikely point were killed off by a goal four minutes from time when substitute Lawrie Dudfield got the better of Craig Rand to beat Northmore from close range and just before the final whistle, the unfortunate Rand turned the ball into his own net trying to defend Dudfield's low cross.
