Eleven-year-old Amber Davey has won a major Irish dancing competition held in the Midlands.

Amber, of Newquay Road, Knowle West, has been learning Irish dance since she was four and took part in the world championships in America last month.

She finished about half way in her age group of 130 dancers and the experience made her even more determined to improve.

Her hard work and dedication led to her coming first in her age group at a national Irish dance competition held in Corby.

Her father Steven, 43, said: "I thought it would be hard to get even more dedicated and determined to be the best but that is exactly what has happened to Amber.

"We were so proud when she came first. After years of dancing she has won her biggest trophy so far as a solo dancer."

Amber said: "After all my training it was such a lovely, special feeling to come first out of so many great dancers at the Costello Feis.

"Now I will work even harder to keep coming first.

"I'd like to thank my teachers Rosemary Ellis and Gordon McMahon at Sean Eireann McMahon Academy of Irish Dancing. They work harder then any of us pupils.".
