West Country Offered a Taste of South Africa At Pub Re-Launch

A South African pub landlord is bringing a taste of his homeland to The West Country by offering new speciality dishes at The Full Quart, in Hewish, near Weston-super-Mare. 

Peter and Allison Docherty, former managers of the Warwick Arms, Clutton, took over the village pub two weeks ago with the aim of offering a unique concept to pull in the punters.

Recently the Full Quart had closed its doors for business but now new landlords Peter and Allison are injecting a new lease of life into the family friendly pub.

To celebrate taking over the establishment, Peter is inviting customers to join him and Allison for a double celebration on Tuesday November 20, at 7pm, when he turns 50.

The evening will allow visitors to meet the couple and indulge in the rare South African dishes on offer, as well as trying out the new choose your own steak concept- the first of its kind in the area.

Peter, 49, said: "Since moving to the UK from South Africa two-years-ago I haven't looked back and am really enjoying life here but I want to bring a taste of my homeland to the West Country.

"We are therefore offering a selection of speciality dishes including Boerewors sausage, steak with Monkey Gland sweet and sour BBQ sauce, Babotie spicy mince curry and meats with Sheeba hot and spicy sauce, as well as Malva apricot pudding.

"This is a double celebration as not only have we taken over the pub, it is also my 50th birthday, so I thought it would be nice to make the occasion really personal by sharing it with our regulars with a combined party night."

Allison, 44, added: "We want people to understand the concept of what we do and hope that people will join us on Tuesday evening to meet us and find out what we are all about.

"As well as our new South African dishes and wines on offer, customers can also choose custom cut steaks where they select and weigh their own steaks, which we firmly believe are the best on offer in the South West.

"We use a use a unique basting on the steaks to enhance the flavour and they are also flame grilled."

Residents are invited to attend the launch party night from 7pm, on Tuesday November 20, 2012.
