Coca-Cola Championship round-up: How did Bristol City's rivals fare?

West Brom boss Roberto di Matteo urged his side to enjoy their excellent start to the season after Marek Cech's double against Plymouth helped them to the Coca-Cola Championship summit.

The Baggies hit back to win 3-1 after Jamie Mackie had given the Pilgrims the lead at The Hawthorns, with Shelton Martis and Cech replying before the break.

Slovakia international Cech made the points certain when he added his second four minutes from time.

Di Matteo said: "We are top of the league and we will enjoy that. We are also still unbeaten and we will enjoy that as well. We have our philosophy of how we want to play and we can score from anywhere in the team, which is important.

"We are going in the right direction and I think the chairman (Jeremy Peace) is very happy that we are unbeaten."

Jeremie Aliadiere scored twice as Middlesbrough maintained their fine start by compounding the woes of Roy Keane's Ipswich with a 3-1 win at the Riverside Stadium. Gary O'Neil was also on target for Boro, while Jonathan Walters netted a late penalty for Ipswich.

Keane said: "When you look at the goals we've conceded all season, it has been a horror show. And there have been another three today."

Opposite number Gareth Southgate said: "The game wasn't as easy for us as the scoreline suggests. We were made to work hard and we lost concentration at the end and gave away a soft penalty and the clean sheet. We need to be more ruthless."

Neil Mellor and Stephen Elliott scored to give Preston a 2-0 win over Swansea at Deepdale.

Scunthorpe hit form after a disappointing start to the season to run out 4-0 winners at Crystal Palace. Jonathan Forte, Paul Hayes, Sam Togwell and Michael O'Connor were all on target.

"I can't think of a bigger embarrassment in my career," lamented Palace boss Neil Warnock.

Matthew Kilgallon ended Derby's 100 per cent home record when he headed the only goal as Sheffield United won 1-0 at Pride Park.

"I cannot praise the lads enough," said Blades manager Kevin Blackwell.

"We had the end of last season to deal with (losing in the play-off final) and I am really pleased with the way they have acquitted themselves."

Matt Fryatt scored twice as Leicester beat former manager Ian Holloway's Blackpool side 2-1 at the Walkers Stadium. Fryatt's 26th-minute opener was cancelled out by Charlie Adam five minutes later, but the Foxes striker settled the match just before the hour.

Marcus Tudgay earned Sheffield Wednesday a 1-1 draw after they fell behind to an early goal by Nottingham Forest striker Dexter Blackstock at Hillsborough.

QPR and Peterborough also drew 1-1 at Loftus Road. Aaron McLean put the visitors ahead but Wayne Routledge's fifth goal of the season earned the London side a draw.

Reading and Doncaster played out a goalless draw at the Madejski Stadium, while Danny Graham's goal handed Watford a 1-0 win over Barnsley at Vicarage Road.

Newcastle beat Cardiff 1-0 yesterday with a goal from Fabricio Coloccini. The Magpies had Alan Smith sent off late on for a second bookable offence.
