Frank Tickner will seek to add the Inter Counties Cross Country title to the English Championships crown that he lifted last month.

The Wells City Harrier was delighted to reclaim the national title at Parliament Hill and, while completing a double at Nottingham's Wollaton Park on Saturday would be an impressive achievement, his over-riding aim is to qualify for the World Championships in Jordan.

A top-five finish should secure that target and it is hard to envisage Tickner finishing lower than that, let alone not even winning a medal.

Joining Tickner in the Avon & Somerset team will be older brother Ben and Wells clubmate Elliot Haines, plus Bristol & West AC trio Craig Peters, Phil Parry and Oli Mott.

Team manager Mike Down said: "Unfortunately we have lost Rob Whaley (injured) and Phil Wylie, otherwise we would have a squad that could have won the team title."

Clevedon's Steph Barnes will be seeking a top-25 finish in the women's race, with Gloucestershire's South West champion Kate Goodhead also looking for a high finish.

Tiverton lecturer Helen Dyke is among the entries for the Duchy 20-mile road race at Redruth on Sunday. She will be using the event to prepare for the Flora London marathon.

There is also a big field for the Gloucester 20, which starts in Frampton-on-Severn, and no entries will be taken on the day.

Former champion Neil Holmes, of Erme Valley Harriers, is among 2,000 entries for the Saucony Grizzly 20-mile multi-terrain event, which will start from Seaton, in east Devon, on Sunday.

Entries will be taken on the day for Sunday's Devizes 10k, held from Devizes Football Club (11am). For further information call Ian Thompson on 07849 536177 or log on to www.devizesrunningclub.org.uk

The Salisbury 10 is held on Sunday (11am) from Salisbury Leisure Centre. Call Rod Smith for details on 01722 324154.
