Organisers praised the work of volunteers who have helped with the repairs.

Janet Knight, chairwoman from the Horfield Community Association, said: "We've put so much work into it and so many volunteers have given their time to help us out. They have totally transformed the place and it's absolutely fantastic."

Work started in February after the centre closed in September of last year. The refurbishments were organised by a partnership of local organisations including the Bristol Sundown Rotary Club, Bristol Community Housing Foundation, Bristol City Council, Filton Avenue Junior School, Avon and Somerset Police and the Horfield Community Association.

Residents have also chipped in, alongside a handful of companies, volunteering to revitalise the site. Horfield-based Golesworthy Flooring provided a new floor and Jeff Way Electricals carried out rewiring and fitted new lighting at the centre.

Anyone interested in using the space should visit the centre's website: www.wordsworthcentre.org.uk.
