Webbe's super strike secures the points for table-topping Thornbury
THORNBURY Town Under-11s maintained their position at the top of the table after suffering a couple of scares against Golden Hill Sonics.
Following a promising start by Thorns, it was host team Golden Hill who took the lead.
Once Thornbury came to terms with that early setback, the visitors settled down and equalised via a good run and shot from Leighton Tuodolo.
Midfielder Chris Webbe's long-range blast gave Thornbury the lead shortly after, and a low strike by Tuodolo handed Town a two-goal cushion at the break.

With a downhill advantage to aid their cause, Thornbury continued to push forward in the second half, but were unable to find a way past Sonics' excellent goalkeeper.
A late goal for the home team made it 3-2 to set up an exciting finale, but Thornbury responded in style with a great individual strike by Webbe to secure his team a 4-2 victory.
Two goals by Nyheam Kefentse and one apiece from Del Piero Ross, Divine Amaefule and Rioul Scharschmiet handed Ingleside a 5-0 victory at Westbury Park Foxes Greens, in which goalkeeper Gideon Brown kept Ingleside's first clean sheet of the season with a terrific performance.
In the A section of the Fountains Trophies Senior Cup, Ingleside Under-14s ran out 4-2 winners in a competitive match against visitors Gordano Valley Giants.
The home team raced into a 3-0 lead with efforts from Max Burden, Oliver Estcourt and Kris Hooker, but Valley Giants hit back before the break with two goals of their own from Palmer and Cosway to stay in the game.
However, they were unable to find an equalising goal and when Estcourt hit his second for Ingleside ten minutes from time, the visitors' fightback hopes were finally dashed.
Ollie Bradley's brace and Lewis Evans' strike helped Thornbury Youth to a 3-2 win away against Tytherington Rocks, whose Will Whittleton and Billy Cantin replied.
There was a remarkable goal in the B category of the competition when Icthus goalkeeper Gustavo de Sousa dribbled the ball 70 metres from his own penalty area to the other end before coolly slotting home his team's final goal in an 8-3 victory over Ingleside Colts.
Andrew Peterson rattled in a hat-trick for the home side and Liam Pate and Henry Clothier got two apiece.
Rammel Tapper (2) and Ethan Rogers replied for Colts.
In the Avon Youth League, Henbury Colts Under-13s certainly had their shooting boots on in a high-scoring Division Three game against spirited Thornbury Town.
The home side's strikeforce were in top form, with Lewis O'Flaherty and Joe Mills both hitting well-taken hat-tricks, while hard-working midfielder Brandon Woods struck twice and Alfie Richards was also on target in a 10-4 Henbury success.
Henbury find themselves in third place in the table, just three points behind leaders Bristol Spartak with a game in hand.
Thornbury remain rooted to bottom spot, without a win after their opening six outings.
