St Albans 3 Weston 0

Weston's weakened squad was outplayed by a physical Saints side, who deserved their win.

The Seagulls now have 13 injured players receiving treatment, but made a bright start.

Marc McGregor tested home goalkeeper Paul Bastock with a free-kick on nine minutes and, seven minutes later, Scott Partridge had the ball in the Saints net but was denied by an offside flag.

Saints broke the deadlock on 22 minutes when, against the run of play, a quick break-out on the right saw Hassan Suliaman outstrip Ben Willshire, who was playing out of position, and cross for leading scorer Paul Hakim to beat Ryan Northmore from 10 yards.

After forcing a couple of corners, Saints went further ahead on 33 minutes when James Fisher burst down the left and crossed for Simon Martin to head past Northmore from close range.

Minutes into the second half, Weston lost loan signing Tom Evans with slight concussion and then fellow central defender Craig Rand came off feeling the effects of the injury that kept him out of recent games.

Despite that, Ben Wells tested Bastock with long-range efforts a couple of times, and Weston's best chance fell to Marvin Brown, whose 57th-minute effort came back off the home crossbar.

The hosts completed the scoring on 77 minutes when, from Jonathan Hunt's corner, Simon Martin headed past Northmore.

The Weston goalkeeper also pulled off a couple of excellent saves to deny Hector Mackie and substitute Alex Bailey.
