Bristol's Chris Wood maintained his challenge for the Qatar Masters title yesterday with a two-under par round of 70 - watched by Wayne Rooney and his Manchester United team-mates.

His second-round score, which followed a five-under par 67 in the first round, saw him go into the final two rounds in joint tenth place just two places off the lead.

Immediately, after his round Wood tweeted: "Up and down round today. Few bogeys and a few birdies. In decent position for tomorrow."

It was a case of role reversal as Wood performed in front of the players who were all in Qatar for warm-weather training ahead of Saturday evening's FA Cup fourth-round game against Fulham.

Meanwhile, Chris Lloyd, playing in his first European Tour event of the year just failed to make the cut, carding a one-over par 71 to leave him just a shot short of making it into the final two rounds.
