Dings Crusaders 26 Worthing 10: Dings Crusaders bounced back from a disappointing result last week to record their first win since September.

The Landseer Avenue outfit were looking to put the 28-0 defeat at Henley last week to the back of their minds against a struggling Worthing side.

The positive result was largely due to the finishing power of their electric winger George Watkins, who collected a hat-trick of tries.

The 19-year-old flyer might have had five tries had he been released at the right times, but unfortunately for the home side the passes went astray, much to the relief of the visitors who found Watkins too hot to handle all afternoon.

Worthing hit the front with a try from lock Charlie McGowan in the eighth minute before the home side began to get into their stride.

Crusaders scrum-half Ricky Jones, who returned to the side following a week's absence, mixed his options well by either testing the visitors' fringe defence with his sniping breaks or spinning the ball out to the Dings back -ine who were always a threat.

Dings opened their account with two penalties from fly-half Adam Westall to edge in front before Watkins crossed for his first try in the 20th minute.

The home pack made inroads into the visitors' defence and then released the Dings backs.

They showed good hands to release the winger, who raced in to score out wide.

But the visitors hit back with a try from their other lock Joseph Launchberry, who barged his way over from close range to make it 11-10 to Dings at the interval.

Dings' pack began to take control in the second half and dominated the set-pieces, which allowed Jones and Westall to dictate the pace of the game.

Another Westall penalty on 48 minutes extended the lead for Dings and was followed by Watkins' second try two minutes later.

After several attempts by the forwards to bludgeon their way over, the ball popped out to Watkins, who danced his way over.

But the youngster saved his best for last as his dazzling solo effort brought up his hat-trick and the home crowd to its feet.

Watkins received the ball on the 10-metre line, his foot-work leaving several would-be tacklers grasping thin air before rounding the full-back to score in the corner, Westall converting to seal the contest.

This was by no means a one-man show as the whole of the Dings team played their part in the victory but in Watkins they have a match-winner.
