Vunipola sees red in Bristol Saracens defeat

BRISTOL SARACENS player-coach Feao Vunipola was sent off for two yellow-card offences as his side lost 20-17 in the Gloucester Premier at Gloucester Old Boys.

The 39-year-old former Tonga hooker, on as a second-half replacement, was first sent to the sin bin for pulling down a maul.

But he was given his marching orders shortly after coming back from his 10 minutes on the sidelines for pulling down another maul.

Saracens' tries were scored by flanker Karl Venn (2) and David Wright, while fly-half Torion Britton kicked a conversion.

Whitehall are fourth, after claiming a 35-5 win against Spartans.

Full-back Jake Lucas scored two tries, while centre Chris Channon scored a try, two conversions and a penalty. There were also tries for flanker Mike Ficuciello, No 8 Owain Wynne and wing Luke Colton.

Old Colstonians led 23-13 at Old Richians with 25 minutes to go but ended up losing 27-23.

Scrum-half Harry Burrows and centres Will Read and Anthony Stilwell touched down, with fly-half George Burrows landing two penalties and a conversion.

Tim Davies grabbed a brace of tries as Southmead beat Frampton Cotterell 33-0. Danny Cotterell claimed a try and four conversions, while Mike McCormack and Leon Oates also touched down.

In Gloucester One, Aretians claimed their maiden victory of the campaign when coming from behind to win 22-18 at Old Bristolians.

Bristolians had led 15-0 thanks to tries from Andy Oliver and Phil Chan plus a penalty and a conversion from Simon Hawkins. Ben Bagnall also kicked a penalty.

Chipping Sodbury and Bishopston drew 9-9, with three penalties each for Sodbury's Steve Romanowski and Bishopston's Dave Priddy.

Andrew Morrison (2), Danny Mitchell, Sean Smith and Sam Gregory touched down in Ashley Down's 39-31 rout of Longlevens. Paul Glen kicked a drop goal, a penalty and four conversions.

In Gloucester Two, leaders Kingswood kept a clean sheet for the third consecutive match, thrashing Greyhound 53-0. Captain Paul Allen scored six tries to take his season's total to 14. Ian Kirley, Sam Bailey and Mike Oakley also touched down and Kirley kicked four conversions.

Bristol Harlequins claimed their third successive victory when beating Old Sulians 34-10 in Somerset Premier. Mark Ralph and Richard Jones both crossed for a brace of tries, with Dean Hucker also touching down. Barry Stone was on target with three conversions and a penalty.

In Somerset Premier, Winscombe lost 34-22 at home to Stothert & Pitt despite leading 22-0 after 20 minutes.

Will Foster, Anthony Gregory, Ollie Jones and Andy Ball touched down with Owen Howell adding one conversion for Winscombe.

In Somerset One, Ollie Nowell's penalty seven minutes from full-time secured an 18-18 draw for Broad Plain at Old Culverhaysians.

Craig Morrison and man of the match Frank Bateman touched down. Nowell also landed a conversion and another penalty.

Former Clevedon and Weston full-back Mike Lowis scored a hat-trick of tries as Nailsea & Backwell won 49-0 at Wiveliscombe.
