Vowles emerges from Carpenters conundrum

Steve Vowles scraped home by a narrow margin of just 2oz from Keith Palmer to win the Carpenters Arms 2000 AC match fished at the Sedges, Bridgwater.

Vowles used a straight lead with an 8mm hair-rigged pellet hookbait to tempt eight carp totalling 50-6-0, while Palmer poled paste at 13 metres off peg 14 for a 50-4-0 catch of skimmers and carp.

Third place and the heaviest fish of the match went to Paul Wilcox, who fished the same tactics as the winner at peg five and included a 19-2-0 common carp in his 37-8-0 catch.

The silverfish pools money went to Paul Foxhall for a 14-6-0 catch of skimmers taken at 11 metres off peg nine with 6mm soft pellet.

Result – Overall: 1, Steve Vowles 50-6-0, peg 15; 2, Keith Palmer 50-4-0, peg 14; 3, Paul Wilcox 37-8-0, peg 3; 4, Paul Swain 31-2-0, peg 10; 5, Craig Pinker 23-8-0, peg 11; 6, Phil Terry 22-0-0, peg 18. Silverfish: 1, Paul Foxhall 14-6-0, peg 9. Best fish: Paul Wilcox – 19-2-0 common carp.
