Vote for Bristol as one of the 'Greats' of Great Britain
Bristolians are being urged to vote for their city in an online competition to celebrate the people, places and products that make up the 'Greats' of Great Britain.
The Great Exhibition 2012 is inviting people in Bristol to vote for their city, nominate their own personal 'Great' and share videos, photographs, and stories with the rest of the nation.

Clifton Suspension bridge
It draws inspiration from the Great Exhibition of 1851, the first International World Fair opened by Queen Victoria on May 1 in Hyde Park.
Similarly, the 2012 event aims to provide a platform for businesses, towns, cities, attractions, tourism and talents to celebrate everything that makes Britain 'Great'.

However, Bristol currently has just 87 votes so it needs some help to hit the top spot.

“We may have had much to celebrate in the past but also much to be ashamed of e.g. slave trade. Can't think of much to celebrate now - a council that manages to b***s up just about everything it puts it's hands to, councillors and officers that treat us, their wage payers, as nothing but a nuisance if we have the temerity to question/disagree with them. We have a totally useless bus service, showcase bus routes that cost a fortune and delivered now't, the disatrous city centre traffic layout, an education service that failed to deliver blighting the lives of thousands, funding of organistaitons like SPU which, depsite what they say do not represent the majority of the community in St Paul's (think PRSC with a BCC logo and you won't be far out) and the sell-off of green spaces. I could go on but it's time for a triple vodka to wash down a handful of Valium as am going apoplectic thinking about all this. Night night folks.”

“Crikey Bristol has 110 'greater' things with more votes. The blurb says it's a forward looking city. Hmm bet Babs Janke wrote that rubbish.”
