Volunteers help older people get to grips with new technology
A group of older people got to grips with new technology thanks to the help of a team of volunteers.
Residents of Beaufort House in Yate spent a morning playing Wii games, using e-book readers and learning how to become sliver surfers to celebrate the launch of Merlin Housing Society's Volunteer Service.

Merlin's Senior Activity Co-ordinator, Lorna Giles said, "Both the residents and volunteers had a great day.
"Our Volunteer Service is all about reducing isolation and loneliness for vulnerable people. But, it's also great for our volunteers as it gives them skills and experience that can be invaluable in other areas of their lives.

Merlin's Volunteer Service is running thanks to funding from South Gloucestershire Council. The service means that it can encourage more people to take part in its Activities Service and get involved in the community.
Merlin is looking to recruit around 50 volunteers to work older people, particularly those who are isolated and lonely and who normally struggle to take part in events. For more information, visit www.merlinhs.co.uk/volunteer.
