Volunteer plea by St John's Ambulance
FIRST aid charity St John's Ambulance is appealing for volunteers to help lead its Badger and Cadet units in Bristol and North Somerset.
Badgers are the youngest St John Ambulance members, aged five to 10, with Cadet groups catering for 11 to 18-year-olds. Units usually meet once a week and young people learn lifesaving first aid skills as well as a range of other subjects. The charity is looking for cadet leaders in Coalpit Heath, Hartcliffe, Weston- super-Mare, Keynsham and Nailsea and Badger leaders in Longwell Green, Stoke Gifford, Brislington, Bradley Stoke, Hartcliffe, Keynsham, Weston-super-Mare, Yate and other areas.
St John's Ambulance youth development officer, Michelle Chatham, said: "We are not asking people to give huge amounts of their time, just one evening a week can make so much of a difference. Potential volunteers don't need to have previous experience of youth work or first aid as full training is given. New youth workers are continually supported and full training will be completed within the first year.
"This is a very worthwhile role, supporting young people in our communities to learn how to save lives.
