Somerset skipper Justin Langer hailed his side for their thrilling, one-wicket Champions League victory over Deccan Chargers – and then admitted they face another test of character today.

Somerset CCC gave themselves a great chance of qualifying for the second stage thanks to a nerve-shredding win over the Indian Premier League champions off the last ball of the match in front of more than 30,000 fans in Hyderabad, India.

But they are back in action this lunchtime when they complete their Group A fixtures against Trinidad and Tobago in Bangalore.

Another win will put Somerset into the second group stage – defeat will mean an anxious wait for the result of the Deccan v T&T game on Wednesday.

Langer said: "There is a hectic schedule, but that is OK. We will just see how mentally tough we are because we have got a big game against Trinidad. We have shown that there are a lot of areas we can improve, but to beat Deccan Chargers on their home ground is a great confidence booster for us.

"Our preparation was magnificent and now we have got to get back to the drawing board and make sure it is just as good for Trinidad."

Langer hailed the team-spirit that had seen his side triumph under pressure.

"Firstly it is great to play in a game like this – the noise is amazing – for most of our guys to play in front of a crowd like this at a magnificent stadium was a great thrill and to win a very close contest it just goes to show the character we have got at the club," he said. "We're coming off a lot of county cricket and have had a couple of fantastic years. Ironically, we've won a lot of close games like this, so it is a great tribute the character of the club."

Langer triumphed over a Deccan side coached by former team-mate Darren Lehmann, which included some of his other Aussie pals.

"Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds and some of the Chargers' support team are among my closest friends so we will have a laugh about that," he said.

Somerset CCC's man of the match was Alfonso Thomas for his two wickets and his top score of 30 not out which featured two crucial boundaries off Scott Styris in the last over.

The T&T squad includes a host of West Indies stars, including all-rounders Dwayne Bravo and Lendl Simmons and wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin.

However, captain Darren Ganga needed help from Jack Warner – the FIFA vice president – to get the time off work to travel to India.

The match starts at 11.30am and again it will be shown live on a big screen in the Old Pavilion at the County Ground in Taunton. Admission, which includes a pie and a pint, is £5.
