O n Friday, July 3, the English Concert, one of the finest baroque chamber orchestras in the world, present music by the two greatest composers of this era – Bach and Handel.

This takes place at St George's and tickets from £10 to £24 (with concessions) are available from 0845 4024001. Start time is at 7.30pm.

The same evening Bristol Chamber Orchestra present at Princes Hall, Clevedon, a popular programme under the direction of Roger Huckle, starting at 7.45pm. Unfortunately, I have no further information.

On Saturday, July 4, the famous Prom on the Close at Clifton College takes place at 7.30pm with Jae Alexander conducting the Emerald Ensemble with support from Natasha Marsh and Nicky Spence. Tickets from £22.50 on 0870 7740577.

Also on the same night Bristol Music Club Orchestra have eminent cellist Sarah Lovell playing Haydn's Cello Concerto and coming up in the second half is Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony. William Goodchild is the conductor throughout. The venue is again St George's and tickets £6 to £12 (with concessions) from 0845 4024001. Starting time is 7.30pm.

At St Mary Redcliffe on the same night, the Cameo Orchestra present a concert starting at 7.30pm. Again, no further details.

On Sunday, July 5, at 7.30pm the Exultate Singers under the direction of David Ogden present an evening of Italian Renaissance choral music under the general title 'Glories of Venice'. This takes place at All Saints, Clifton. Tickets £12 (£10 concessions, under-18s £2) from 0117 927 6536.

On Tuesday, July 7, at Bristol Cathedral Alison Howell (organ) gives the final recital of the summer season at 1.15pm. Admission is free.

In the evening, Bristol Schools Chamber Choir perform songs from the classics to Cole Porter at 7.30pm. Tickets £10 (children £2) from St George's box office.

On Wednesday, July 8, Dr Roy Massey, ex-organist at Hereford Cathedral, gives a celebrity recital at Christ Church, Broad Street. Tickets priced at £8.50 and concessions £6.50 from 0117 972 3312.
