VIDEO:Nick Clegg in Bristol to announce huge investment in the aerospace industry

A two billion pound investment in the UK's aerospace industry was announced in Bristol this morning by the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Mr Clegg toured Airbus in Filton, before making the announcement that the government will invest one billion pounds in the aerospace industry, with another billion coming from the industry itself. The plan is a long term commitment to research and design in the aerospace industry, and will lead to the development of the UK Aerospace Technology Institute.

The institute will bring together industry and academic expertise to underpin the development of the UK's aerospace industry in the future.

Mr Clegg told ThisisBristol that the announcement is critical to keeping the UK at the forefront of the industry.

He made the announcement to a group of Airbus apprentices this morning after touring the factory.

Tom Williams, Executive Vice President of Programs at Airbus, said this commitment to design and technology would be crucial to jobs at Filton in the future.
