A fake moon rose dramatically over College Green in Bristol tonight marking the launch of the arts and theatre festival IBT13.

Simon Faithfull's 'Fake Moon' is a giant illuminated balloon powered by man, ropes, helium and pulley which follows the path of the real moon.

For some spectators the wait was worth it. Bristol University student Ben Goodwin had come down with friends to watch it rise: “It's not at all what I expected” he said. “I was pretty skeptical to be honest, but when it launched it looked stunning.”

Others were not so convinced. Jon Perry from Downend said: “It's not really like the moon is it? I expected it to be more realistic with craters.”

IBT13 brings together more than 90 internationally renowned artists for a weekend of unique theatre and arts events across the city.

The arts festival takes to the streets of Bristol for four days of unique events, premieres and new commissions. More than 50 art, theater and shows move into the city’s dockside, streets and alleyways.
