CHRIS Coles has vowed to learn from his disappointing performance at the English National Badminton Championships - and is already looking towards fulfilling his Olympic dream.

Bristol-born Coles brushed off a shock men's doubles defeat alongside Matthew Nottingham in the quarter-finals in Manchester, claiming he has far bigger targets in mind.

Coles, who was also knocked out early in the mixed doubles playing with long-term partner Jess Fletcher, admits competing at either the 2016 or 2020 Olympics drives him to get on court each day and hone his game.

"Luckily the Nationals mean nothing to us on the bigger stage," said the 20-year-old. "It is nice to do well but there is a bigger picture out there that we have to look at and that is Olympics and competing on the world stage.

"We are a long way from that yet but we are not going to lose confidence.

"We go to Austria in a week and then as soon as we are back from Austria we have the German Open so that's two relatively tough tournaments and we are going to have to step it up if we are to do well.

"We have just got to get back to training hard, talk it over with the coaches, have a look at the video and get on with it.

"Maybe 2016 is a but unrealistic for us yet, but anything can happen over four years - it's a long time. And if four years doesn't happen then we will look at seven years time."
