There is something about anti-social behaviour that gets missed – it now seems to be accepted as a social phenomenon.

The fact is that it actually blights people's lives, and drives them to despair. It's as malicious as any other kind of harassment – racial or sexual.

Policing Strategy has to be both 'upstream' and 'downstream' of crime.

In north Bristol, significant resources have been allocated to an 'upstream' approach, e.g. activities in schools, youth clubs etc. But significant resources have not been allocated to match the problems 'downstream'.

There is not nearly enough activity on the ground to deter a significant minority whose ability to act with impunity in north Bristol totally undermines any other benefits achieved by an 'upstream' strategy.

Residents of Southmead and Henbury are not getting good value for their hard-earned council tax.

I know this because I and my family live here, pay council tax, and are constantly on the receiving end of anti-social behaviour.

It's totally unacceptable that this situation has gone on for so long and that some people can just wander around making other people's lives a misery.

Having said that, the police that we've met on the ground do a fantastic job, and are totally committed to trying to solve the problem – there are simply not enough of them with the resources to patrol on foot, which is what it takes.

There is a lot going on in the UK right now – the country is changing together with people's feelings about the Government and their trust of the Government across a raft of issues, including law and order and value for money.

Things are changing in Bristol too – people have finally had enough – thanks Evening Post for helping to bring this change about

“These so called yobs use the excuse there is nothing for them to do,just look at the hundreds of youths who completed the ten tor's last week, a different generation.
Why is there a gap between these youths and the yobs who hang about the streets.
I think this needs to be looked at.”
