UPDATE: Police say fire-damaged Robin Cousins sports centre in Bristol will be demolished
A FORMER sports centre wrecked in an arson attack will have to be demolished, say police.
Confirming that the blaze which gutted the former Robin Cousins sports centre in Shirehampton was started deliberately, an Avon and Somerset force spokesman said the building had been left in an unsafe state by the fire.
He said two people had been seen going to the building shortly after 11pm on Tuesday and starting the fire.
"The fire service attended to extinguish the flames and we immediately began enquiries into the cause of the fire," said the spokesman.

“Perhaps they might actually replace the building with a proper, fit-for-purpose leisure facility now? Fat chance! It seems like an age ago that the people of Avonmouth and Shirehampton had a Sports Centre and Swimming Pool, in fact, it doesn't seem like an age, IT WAS!!”
