Video footage has emerged of a "cylinder-shaped object" that stunned holidaymakers as it hovered over the coast above a seaside resort in North Somerset.

The UFO was seen floating above a caravan park at Brean, near Burnham-on-Sea, last summer.

A two-minute video clip taken by an onlooker shows the cigar-shaped craft moving high above telegraph poles and the stationary vans.

The shaky film was shot at a lunchtime and in clear blue skies last July.

The video was taken at the height of the tourist season and a large crowd stopped to watch the phenomenon move in the air for 10 minutes.

It appears to be made of metal and has no visible attachments that could be kite-strings.

Avon and Somerset Police said they received no reports of UFOs in July. The previous month they did deal with a hoax call claiming that objects were floating in the sky above Cheddar Gorge, which is 15 miles from Brean.

A leading UFO research group warned it could be a kite or even a new aircraft being secretly tested.

UFO expert Malcolm Robinson, who has studied the subject for more than 30 years, said the footage was "fantastic and baffling".

But Mr Robinson, who runs the respected Strange Phenomena Investigations group, said 95% of sightings could be explained away after some investigation.

A video of a UFO seen in Dundry was recently posted on YouTube. Click here to see it.

“Unfortunately, there is some kind of black helium balloon the length of a long garden. My neighbour actually filled one last year but don't know what he did with it.”

“I just love it. This is the type of story BEP should report on more often. It's great. An uknown cylinder in the sky, Fuzzy images and a wobbly camera. Shame on you all those who try and down play it down as a kite. It's a UFO and I love it!”

“They're at a caravan park which is a big Clue. It's either a kite flying off a beach (sudden movement followed by hovering), or if there were no visible strings, a wind sock that's caught on a thermal. You see them everywhere on the coast. There's no such thing as alien spaceships, only secret government test-aircraft and kites. My best guess: a kite.”
