Twyford House need 26 more points to be confirmed as Bristol & District Senior Division champions.

With two matches left, and 35 points up for grabs in each game, the Shirehampton-based outfit could seal the title tomorrow at home to Portishead.

The club, who were relegated from Bristol & North Somerset last summer, climbed clear of second-placed Pak Bristolians last weekend after beating their championship rivals by 57 runs.

Opener and former skipper Mark Fowler said: "That was a huge game for us. We have now done a few calculations and we need 26 points and the title would be guaranteed.

"That is on the proviso that Pak Bristolians win their remaining two matches and gain maximum points.

"We need to win only one of our last two matches – but we want to win them both.

"We want to take the mathematical equation out of it and just concentrate on playing cricket."

But Fowler knows a swift return to the West of England Premier League would crown a fantastic year for the club. "No side has been relegated from Bristol & North Somerset and gone back up the next season," he said. "We know it is going to be tough, but we have put ourselves in the driving seat."

House bolstered their campaign a fortnight ago by snapping up all-rounder Ryan Jamieson from Premier One side Bristol.

The South African has since shown his calibre by cracking 79 from 54 balls on his debut in the 96-run victory over Almondsbury.

And last weekend, he took 4-21 as Pak Bristolians were skittled for 73 when chasing 130.

"Ryan has been a huge signing for us," added Fowler.

"He is well known to the club and he is married to (Twyford bowler) Simon Byas's sister. We have been talking to him about joining us for a while.

"Ryan spent the season in South Africa last year but once he was back at Bristol, he was not available much and became surplus to requirements."

House have also clinched the Bristol & District Plate, beating Blagdon by four wickets at Cleeve.

Batting first, Blagdon made a great start with their stand-in skipper Jeremy Board cracking 45 from 34 balls. Jon Withers chipped in with 32 not out from 34 balls as Blagdon made 128-6. Jean Claude Satin took 3-29.

House lost opener Ian Reed for five but the next three batsmen – Ross Sutton (25 from 40 balls), Jamieson (23 from 26) and Neil Hall (33 not out from 28) – paved the way for victory.

Fowler added: "We won the toss and stuck them in. We knew Board was the wicket we wanted. He batted well but once he was out the rest of the innings petered out.

"They scored 128 and that wasn't enough on that track. We got there by losing six wickets and had two overs to spare. It was quite comfortable.

"There were more than 100 people watching from the club.

That was the biggest crowd I have ever played in front of. It was a great day."
