LEE Trundle believes Bristol City's stunning win at Charlton Athletic sends out a powerful message to the rest of the Coca-Cola Championship.

Back to their best, City triumphed 2-0 at The Valley to leap from ninth to fourth position in the table with a quarter of the season gone.

Goals from Trundle and Gavin Williams secured a second success in four days and served notice that Gary Johnson's side are still a force to be reckoned with.

"It really does send out a message," declared Trundle.

"Charlton are a big, big club who were in the Premier League only two years ago, yet we've come here and beaten them in style.

"It's the kind of result which should make people sit up and take notice.

"Charlton are having a few problems at the moment, but they still have good players and the Valley is a difficult place to come to. We've soaked up everything they've thrown at us and come out on top.

"It's the kind of performance and result which could kick start our season."

City head for another away game at Barnsley on Saturday and manager Gary Johnson believes they can head to Yorkshire in good heart.

He said: "I'm proud of my players for what they've achieved here. It's a performance which will fill the boys with confidence.

"I thought we were superb all over the pitch and I don't want to single out individuals. We defended fantastically well and demoralised a very good Charlton side.

"People will talk about the goals and our attacking play, but we defended as a team and looked very strong."

City have now beaten Norwich and Charlton in quick succession to put defeats at the hands of Wolves and Sheffield United firmly behind them.

"People said we were on a bad run, but those were very difficult away games," reasoned Johnson.

"Me and my staff work very hard to get things right and we know how good these players are.

"I'm not here to seek vindication, but the lads proved their quality in this game.

"We're not getting carried away, because we have another tough game at Barnsley on Saturday.

"But we'll now go there full of confidence, believing we can pick up another three points."
