Lee Trundle will almost certainly be back with Bristol City next week.

City's £1 million striker has spent the past two months on loan at League One promotion hopefuls Leeds United.

But Whites boss Simon Grayson has given no indication that he wishes to retain Trundle's services for a third month and Trundle is expected to return to Bristol after Tuesday's fixture against Yeovil Town at Elland Road.

City manager Gary Johnson confirmed: "It looks as though Lee will coming back to us after Tuesday.

"We've not heard anything at all from Leeds and they certainly haven't said they want to extend the loan period.

"Lee hasn't been getting in their starting line-up recently and, from what I'm told, he hasn't exactly set the world alight up there."

Trundle made an instant impact when first moving to Elland Road in January, scoring on his second appearance to help Leeds win at Brighton.

But his performances have dipped since he missed a penalty in a 2-0 defeat at Hereford and he has been relegated to the bench for the last three games. An unused substitute at Oldham in midweek, the 32-year-old forward appears to have slipped down the pecking order.

Leeds boss Grayson is hoping to complete the signing of Derby striker Liam Dickinson on loan until the end of the season and his imminent arrival at Elland Road will render Trundle surplus to requirements.

Leeds have been paying Trundle's wages and it is thought Dickinson will be a cheaper option.

But Trundle's spell in Yorkshire has served its purpose as far as Johnson is concerned. He said: "Lee needed games and he's got those at Leeds.

"I'm not sure what kind of shape he's in and that will depend on what Leeds have done with him. But I'll soon know when he gets back.

"If Lee returns next week, he'll go straight back into the first-team squad and be in the mix with the rest of the lads."

Meanwhile, long-term absentee Marvin Elliott is expected to be fit and available for selection within the next fortnight. But Johnson insists he will not rush the midfield powerhouse back into first-team action.

Elliott has not played since suffering a muscle tear in his groin on January 27. But his rehabilitation is progressing according to schedule and the Londoner has been running for the past two weeks.

Johnson said: "Marvin is about two weeks away and is coming along nicely. But he'll need games before we pitch him back into the Championship and I'd like to see him play a couple of reserve matches first.

"We're being careful with him, because the last thing we want is to bring him back too soon and risk a recurrence of his injury."
