Lee Trundle will almost certainly be back at Ashton Gate next week.

Bristol City's £1 million striker has spent the past two months on loan at League One Leeds United.

But Whites boss Simon Grayson has given no indication that he wishes to retain Trundle's services for a third month and Trundle is expected to return to Bristol after Tuesday's fixture against Yeovil Town at Elland Road.

City manager Gary Johnson confirmed: "It looks as though Lee will be coming back to us after Tuesday.

"We've not heard anything at all from Leeds and they certainly haven't said they want to extend the loan period.

"Lee hasn't been getting in their starting line-up recently and, from what I'm told, he hasn't exactly set the world alight up there."

Trundle made an instant impact when first moving to Elland Road in January, scoring on his second appearance to help Leeds win at Brighton.

But his performances have dipped since he missed a penalty in a 2-0 defeat at Hereford and he has been relegated to the bench for the last three games. An unused substitute at Oldham in midweek, the 32-year-old forward appears to have slipped down the pecking order.

Leeds boss Grayson is hoping to complete the signing of Derby striker Liam Dickinson on loan until the end of the season and his imminent arrival at Elland Road will render Trundle surplus to requirements.

Leeds have been paying Trundle's wages and it is thought Dickinson will be a cheaper option.

Johnson added: "Lee needed games and he's got those at Leeds. I'm not sure what kind of shape he's in and that will depend on what Leeds have done with him. But I'll know when he gets back.

"If Lee returns next week, he'll go straight back into the first-team squad and be in the mix with the rest of the lads."
